Obstruction and Runner out on Appeal

Post by boyinr » Wed May 05, 2010 6:50 pm

How do I score these two situations in iScore?

We had a runner called out on appeal at home for leaving early in tag up situation at third base. I used the Runner Left Early but, I think that there should be another way.

Also we had a runner advanced via obstruction on the shortstop between second and third. (Runner on second, ground ball was fielded by the pitcher who thew to third for the tag play, ss obstructed runner, batter runner ends up on second via fielders choice and throw). I count not find any way to reflect this action.

I really am learning a lot about the iScore program and the output is amazing. I am not confident enough to use it yet in a game as my only method of keeping the book for a HS softball team. Maybe during the summer travel ball season.

For the runner leaving early in a tag up situation, it sounds like you got it right --- tap the runner on third, Out, Left Base Early.

For runner awarded base because of interference, this should actually be marked as an error on the fielder, and you can enter a note saying they interfered with the play.

See MLB Rule 10.7(c):
When an umpire awards the batter or any runner or runners one or more bases because of interference or obstruction, the official scorer shall charge the fielder who committed the interference or obstruction with one error, no matter how many bases the batter, or runner or runners, may advance.

enjoy, confidence comes with pratcice.. for what it is worth...

I have evolved to having a volunteer keep a hard copy book, and i keep iScore with me in the dug out and use. I have found it takes a very special scorer to have a more accurate and more robust paper book than what i can do with iScore. I find iScore at my side is more helpful and often more accurate than the paper book of most scorekeepers (including myself when i did paper books only).. Post games i compare paper book and iscore book and cross calibrate, edit iscore to be my master copy....
