Innings Played

Post by cdave » Thu Mar 18, 2010 12:30 pm

Is there a way to find out how many innings each player has played for the season?

Actual innings are only tracked for Pitchers. Every other position, we currently only keep stats for whether they played in the game or not. We may add an innings played in the future for other players, but it is a little tricky to calculate since we do not require you to enter positions for all players, and many leagues allow "all players bat". So if a player is batting, are they "playing" in an innings played count? Or is this really looking for "innings in the field"?

Something we will consider for a future release, but if you have thoughts on how the calculation should be made, please let us know.

I would like to see it for defensive innings played. My son plays in a coaches pitch league where they sub out every inning. It would be nice to see a column on the stats table for defensive innings played for each player. That way, a coach could keep playing time more fair by seeing how many innings each player has played.

If tracking innings played in field, would keep the same logic used for pitchers.. number is based on how many outs, while you were in teh field. . .1 2 3 or 1.1, 1.2, 1.3. think you seperate number of at bats from innings played. for example some youth leagues require kids play three full defensive innings (aka 9 outs) but only bat a minimum of once.

(not high on my priority list)

Do not agree that it would be tracked by number of outs for fielding. It would be more of an "appeared in inning" number in the case of fielding. If a guy comes into the field and 10 runs score, but 0 outs are made, he should still get credit for playing in the field, as opposed to a pitcher who only gets credit for innings pitched based on number of outs so that ERA relects this.

defer to your better judgment on how to implement (or not) and how you think best.

For what it is worth, I have seen youth leagues with rules where a kid has to play x number of outs in a game defensively. I have also seen youth leagues where a kid has to "make an appearance" (left open for interpretation of what qualifies as an appearance - a pitch, an out, or an inning). Some coaches may monitor number of minutes or number of pitches I suppose, not sure a standard exists.

because of the lack of standard and variation one can find, would not consider it a high priority.

My original question (which I guess has turned into a request) would be to see the number of innings that a particular player has appered in on the defensive side of the ball. This would not be contingent on the number of outs recorded, number of batters, etc., just if he played in the inning at all (maybe it could be based on number of outs if the pithers innings are tracked that way).

I would only like to see this stat on the report when you print out the team stats (maybe as the last column). Like I said earlier, I am just trying to keep track of which kids play the most innings over the season. If it is not that big of a priority for other users, I understand. Thanks.

OhioTex is correct, Little League has a rule that states that each player has to play or be in the game for six consecutive outs and at least one time at bat (LL 3.03)

We have ideas on how we will be able to show both of these things (innings played and appearances) that we think will be unique to iScore. It will come out in a future release, though we don't know exactly when yet.

I too use it in our games at the Club level. We count playing any part of the inning on Defence as an inning played, not the number of outs but thats just how we define it on our team. It would be very useful to be able to generate that stat in the reports as well. We use so we have an idea of needing to play more guys on Defence and also when parents come to us asking why Johnny hasn't played a lot. Thank you, love the ap, this would be the icing on the cake.
