How to score runner advanced by batter and error?

Situation: runner at 1b, no outs. Batter hits grounder to 3b. 3b makes bad throw to 1b. Runner from 1b advances to 2b by batter but then on to 3b due to the error.

How do I score that in iScore? If I say the runner advanced to 3b on an error, it marks both bases as part of the error when, in fact, the move from 1b to 2b is a result of the ground ball hit by the batter. If I say the batter moved to 2b as a result of the ground ball and then add the move to 3b after the conclusion of the play, it records two errors against the third baseman.

So jojolemon, here is what I did. Created a test game and put a runner on 1st.

Tap on "in play" then error
Tap location of hit ball (3B), Next
Tap on 3B for person causing error
Tap on "Advanced by Batter" for runner that was on 1st
Tap on "Held Up" for batter-runner
Tap on base runner at 2nd base
Tap on "Third" for the base, then "on the throw", runner at 1st "Held Up"

See if this doesn't work for you. Seems to have done the trick for me in my test scenario.

Thanks, Brent -

Alas, if you look at the score sheet in your scenario, it shows that the runner (batter #1) advanced to 3b with the 3rd batter at the plate, rather than during the 2nd batter's play.

If you are concerned about the E5 showing for the runner advancing to 2nd on the scorecard, you can use this sequence:

1. Touch Runner on 1B, Safe, Second, Advanced by Batter
2. In Play, Error, Gounder, touch location, Next, 3B
3. Asks about runner - Safe, Third, Error, 3B

This will give you a scorecard that looks the way you want.

Statistically, this is no different than leaving Step 1 out completely, it is just the difference of the text on the scorecard for the runner going from 1st to 2nd being "ABx" vs "E5".

Thanks, FTM. That'll work on the score card but then the play-by-play will be wrong 'cause it'll show the runner advancing before the pitch.

As I posted in another thread, I admit that I'm not very concerned with the stats because I don't get to see all the games so my stats are always wrong. I'm more interested with having an accurate record of the action on the field. I use a combination of the score card and play-by-play to write up the games I score after the fact. And, frankly, most of the time it just doesn't matter. But, sometimes it does. And, when something like this happens there frequently isn't time to write the details in the notes before the next pitch or two.

And, sorry for posting this in the FAQ board...it should probably be in the Issues board, eh?

The way we would probably score it is the way you originally did - batter puts ball in play, safe on error, runner advances to 3rd on the error. The line between 1st and 2nd will show E5, but the reading of pitch by pitch and play by play will correctly say "Runner XYZ advances to 3rd on error by 3B". You could always add a note after the game (or immediately if time) to that particular play indicating the runner went from first to second as a result of the batter hitting the ball, but the reality is this is implied by the fact a grounder was hit which would force the runner over.
