I have my team set up on my iPad and have scored a few games with that. I wanted to use my Android phone app so I exported the teams and imported them on the Android phone. 3 of my players show up as "Deleted Player" in the roster.

Why is that? And if I change the name on the phone, will it mess something up when I export the game back over to the iPad?

That means you have players on the roster that you have actually deleted in Player Manager without removing them from the roster. You can undelete the players (or at least see which players they are and decide if you want to undelete them) by following the instructions here (using the device you are copying from):

It shows I have no players to undelete.

Is there a way to just wipe the Android data completely and start over with a fresh import from my iPad save?

You can use the "Transfer Data" option to copy data from one device to another and they will match exactly. See this link:

Yes. In fact, that is exactly what you will want in order to do this transfer.
