If it is an error, how do I score it to the first baseman. Batter ends up grounding out to first on next pitch. No place to give error to fielder while batter in box.

Yes, it is an error. Tap Misc -> Assign Error.

I am finding this error is seldom assigned by the official scorekeeper at the NAIA college softball games I've attended. I wonder if that is the case at other levels of softball and baseball?

If the ball should be caught with ordinary effort, and the batters at bat is extended by the mis-play, it is an error. It does not matter what the batter does subsequently. This is very explicit in MLB rules and generally lower levels follow MLB guidelines.

I realize this topic is a year old, but this keeps coming up (although not often). The player drops the ball in foul territory, so it's an error. ok - got it. So iscore's advice is to only enter it using "misc, assign error". ok - got that too. So it doesn't go in as a foul at all now? or does it? Do you do both? Because if not, then the pitch count doesn't change.

You just score both the foul and then Misc -> Assign error. You have to do both to get everything right.
