Would you charge an error?

The batter hits a ground ball to right side of infield. The first baseman gets in position to field the ball while the pitcher runs to cover 1B. The ball goes under the first baseman's glove between his legs. The second basemen, who was backing up, fields the ball and throws it to the pitcher covering 1B and gets the out. While an obvious misplay has occurred the batters tie at bat or on the bases was not prolonged. Would you charge an error to the first basemen in this situation?

Surely not. In any case a possible error is exempted when the ball is recovered and a FORCE out is made. Scoring is 41.

Agreed. No error on the force out. In fact, if the first baseman deflected the ball in attempting to make the play, he should get an assist and the play would be scored 3-4-1.

And that's exactly what I told the head coach, but he said of course its an error. Oh well, at least I know my stats are correct.

One of the biggest themes I have run across in this forum over the years.. Is coaches view on misplays and official scorekeeper views on errors are not always the same. And that is ok, if coach and scorekeeper have mutual understanding.of who is calling what, for what purpose. .. , something coaches and official storekeepers need to discuss.
If you are in a league that has 'official Scorekeeping rules' you need to follow those . If you are tracking for your own team purpose and not aggregating with other teams for a league.. You may vary based on your or coaches need ..offical rules may not always make sense to your situation
The best practice I have seen is scorekeeper tracks official rules ( and formal errors) and coach tracks missplays.. Because they are much more and depend on coaches strategy and objectives and assessment of expectations,

No error unless there are consequences.
