Re: Kd....What does this mean ?
I've never personally called it on something like that, but I make sure that everyone in the stadium (and the surrounding neighborhoods) know that the batter is out at that point. Then if the coach wants a rule explanation I give it to him. I yell it louder then I sell my bang-bang out call.

Re: Kd....What does this mean ?
Thanks for the explanation. In our case, the umpire was nice and explained (to the coaches) why the batter was out, but he let the player who originally was on 1st base remain on 2nd.

That is the nice way of doing things. I have had too many umps who don't vocalize an out on an occupied 1st base dropped 3rd strike situation and it does get confusing. Also, I have seen several umps (and coaches for that matter) who don't realize that 1st base is still occupied even if the runner on 1st is leading off. In fact, 1st is occupied until the runner touches 2nd base.Bryan D Shepherd wrote:I've never personally called it on something like that, but I make sure that everyone in the stadium (and the surrounding neighborhoods) know that the batter is out at that point. IMHO, I would not score the runner going to 2nd as a stolen base unless they were breaking on the pitch. If they only ran because of the throw down to 1st, I would record it as 'On the Throw'.

Re: Kd....What does this mean ?
I think it would help if the score card showed who all handled the ball on the play if the ball was dropped. If the catcher just picked up the ball and tagged the runner himself, then the scorecard could read Kd 2U? I don't know if there is a reason that it does not show on the scorecard, but when I am looking at it after a game, it helps to have that kind of information on there. There has also been situations where it will be a dropped third strike and the catcher overthrows the 1st baseman and the runner gets to second, or get thrown out after the 1st baseman recovers the ball...
