Re: Pitching ERA Calculation for Softball (7innings)
iScore Baseball is neither an MLB only or a softball only app. We have incorporated rules from as many leagues as we can. ERG allows the exact number that the people asking for a "7 inning ERA" are asking for (high school, softball, whatever), and also can account for 6 inning games in little league, or whatever number of innings you want to base your calculation on.
iScore Baseball allows scoring both styles of games on a single device (for example, parents use iScore to score their children's baseball and softball games, MLB games, and their own Adult softball games). Yes, we could release a "softball only" version and a "baseball only" version, but that would really be taking advantage of customers making them buy two of the same application that only vary slightly in the rules.
We have stated we will add a setting to allow making ERA = ERG for people that are bothered by the column name. The fact is that the ERG calculation is exactly what people are looking for, and to question "stat integrity" because we have a traditional ERA column and a column called ERG for non traditional ERAs is quite frustrating to us. We have put extensive time and effort into trying to make the application work for all varieties of baseball/softball.

Go to the Options screen when creating a new game, or if you are in the Score screen, click the little "tools" icon in the bottom right. This will bring up a screen that allows you to set the # of scheduled innings for the games.

Re: Pitching ERA Calculation for Softball (7innings)
FTM, I actually looked this up in my rule book, and NFHS softball rule book rule 9.7.2d says: earned-run average - divide the total runs earned while pitching by the total number of innings pitched (average runs per inning) and multiply by seven (average runs per game). While ERG should suffice for this purpose, ERA saying that's its for a nine inning game is incorrect. ERA is exactly what ERG is according to the rule book I have in front of me.
To be honest, I personally thinks it's pretty petty that one letter ruins someone's stats and in some cases, their day.

Re: Pitching ERA Calculation for Softball (7innings)
I am a fan of ERA9 and ERG# as FTM has implemented it.
but wanted to build on Bryans find. (nice one Bryan)
I can verify HFHS Baseball provides similar definiton of ERA it embeds the 7 innings.
also NCAA softball embeds the 7 innings in its defintion (rule 14) , but NCAA baseball embeds 9 in its defintion (rule 10). just like MLB embeds 9 in its defintion.

As noted, we will be adding a preference in a future version to allow those that are not happy with the "ERG" label to re-label it ERA.

This is what I love about FTM. Others would be looking at taking advantage. I like iScore like it is: still does not do EVERYTHING I want, but it is the best in its class, and FTM has been extremely receptive to user input. iScore is what it is thanks to user input since day one, and FTM working hard to implement them. In my case, I suggest the features that I want/need, then I wait for my turn in the priority list. Most has been implemented in a couple of days, some I am still waiting...FTMSupport wrote:Yes, we could release a "softball only" version and a "baseball only" version, but that would really be taking advantage of customers making them buy two of the same application that only vary slightly in the rules.
I will add one word to this: patience.FTMSupport wrote:We have stated we will add a setting to allow making ERA = ERG for people that are bothered by the column name. As I said before: To be honest, I personally thinks it's pretty petty that one letter ruins someone's stats and in some cases, their day, but also the program experience for them.
