You might want to explain to the coach that once the ball hits the dirt it can't be an error on the first baseman. Many coaches aren't aware of this.
Of course there are quite a few people who still count errors by "if it hit leather and gets dropped it's an error".

PetroGuy:
There is only one error on this play even though the the runner advanced multiple bases.
Not necessarily.
If F4 misplays the grounder (allowing the batter-runner to reach 1st), and, in the judgement of the scorer, commits another error by throwing the ball over the header of F3 (with no possibility of getting the out) that could be considered 2 errors on the same player for the same play (one fielding, one throwing).
If F4 boots the ball and holds, runner does not advance to 2nd and there is only 1 error.
If F4 boots the ball, but still has a chance to throw out runner and makes a bad throw, then I agree - one error - runner on 2nd.

The coach can have input, but your stats cannot be consistent if the determination of errors are not coming from the same person. Everyone sees a game a little different.
+1 on this. I might ask a coach or another spectator for some assistance about something I didn't see clearly, but the final judgement is mine as the official scorekeeper. That is what keeps it consistent.

agree, not necessarily.
Please do not take my quote as absolute,
just that it is possible both ways - one error or multiple errors.. one error multiple bases, one error 1 base, second error 2nd base. etc.
It goes back to the main point. Scorer judgement . and consistency in application of your 'scorers judgment'
