Fielders Choice or Error?
Re: Fielders Choice or Error?
This may be a difference between MLB and h.s. Baseball, and also softball. Rules for both of those are above and state no error if an out was made on the immediate play, even if that out is not the lead runner. I do not see the stipulation that the out must be a force out for softball. I do see that it is in the h.s. baseball rule however.

Re: Fielders Choice or Error?
Sorry about the delay (and the confusion on my scoring situation). OhioTex, your assumption was correct. There was indeed a runner on 1st who got out on a 5-4 (not 5-3...my bad). To summarize:OhioTex wrote:Was there a runner on first? Or was it the batter/ runner who is out at second?
( did you mean 5-4 or 5-3 out)
Assuming it was a runner from first out at second, then no error, fielders choice
In high school baseball rules, if fielder drops a fair fly ball but recovers in time to force out a runner he is not charged with and error. It is recorded as a force out. Source NFHS 9.5.5.5
Situation: Runner on 1st. Batter pops up to 3B who drops it, but 3B is able to get runner out at 2nd (5-4)
Result: Batter is scored as a FC, runner is out at 2nd, 3B does not get an error since he was able to get the runner out at 2nd. Correct?
Thank you!
Re: Fielders Choice or Error?
all seem to agree. was a force out of a runner already at first, then it is a FC
