Scoring Question

Post by cdave » Mon May 31, 2010 6:41 am

I will try to keep this brief. In our first game of the day, we had a batter bat out or order. Tanner was supposed to bat in the 7th spot, but Jake went up and hit a double. When Tanner went up to bat afterwards, they called him out for batting out of order.

A couple of question:

1. Does Jake get credit for hitting the double or should he be the one that is called out (the ump let the double stand and the 2 runs counted)?

2. How do I score that in the iScore (I gave Tanner the credit for hitting the double and getting the 2 rbis, and marked Jake out since he was supposed to bat after Tanner)? Now the stats show Tanner with a double and 2 rbis and Jake with an out.

3. Now that the game is over, is there a way to go in and correct it and give Jake the double and 2 rbis and Tanner the out?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you have two things here, 1) how to handle in iscore, and 2) correct scoring rules...

A) unfortuneatley, to completely correct iScore in this type of situation after the fact, (re assign who was skipped and out, and keep stats straight) you will need to use "undo" back to point in game it happend and rescore from there. Currently, Pitch by pitch editor would not let you change outs as it is a game changing event. Once back to the point in undo, Score it as it was seen, and use Misc Skip batter out/no out as appropriate.

B) Who is out, and who to skip or not, in thease situations can be confusing and depends on when the "batter out of order" challange was made. (also what rules you follow matter, MLB, NCAA, NFHS basically the same, not sur eon LL) (Bryan or others, may want to weigh in and correct me if i am wrong, but here is how i understand it...

If the ump let Jake stay on base, .. sounds like Turner may have either taken a pitch or completed his at bat. ...

Assuming MLB rules..(MLB rule 10.03.d) and no outs

if correct order is... Turner, Jake, Joe, James
and actual batting was ... Jake (double), Turner, Joe?,

if "out of order appeal" made after Jakes double and before a pitch to turner, Jake batted "out of order" (in turner's place) and Jake's double should have been nullified, runners reset, Turner called out and next batter is the batter following Turner in the line up -- in this case Jake, jake bats again new count, with 1 out

If "out of order" appeal made after a pitch to turner is made and before turner finishes his at bat, Jakes at bat now stands. But correct batter should now be Joe as he follows Jake in the official lineup. So "out of order" is now on turner in Joe's spot. Turner removed from batting, and Joe takes over the count turner started. Joe bats with 0 outs and jake on base.....

If "out of order" appeal made after Turner completes his at bat (out or hit) and before a pitch thrown to next batter, Joe, then Turner batted out of order (in Joe's spot). Joe declared out (as the proper batter) and next batter up after Joe in line up is James. Turner's at bat is nullified and base runners reset to pre at bat. So James is up with 1 out (joe) and jake on base.

The challange here is knowing the right persons to skip and call out, and then just use the MISC SKIP BATTER (out/no out) Button on iScore.

hope this helps, feel free to post back questions or clarify situation if needed.

addendum.. to A.

although to fix it correctly, requires undo. if you want a jury rig, semi workaround , that leaves the 'score book wrong' but gets the 'stats to right names'. you can use offense subs in a unstandard way. assuming Jake's stats (double) is currently assigned to Turner and Jake's at bat was skipped in your original scoring. You can go to picth by pitch editor sub out turner for jake before the at bat, so jake gest the double, not turner. then sub in turner for Jake before the skip out, so turner gets the skip out not jake.. this should get the stats to right persons, and the score book will look funky on subs.. Then of course sub back out/in Jack/turner, to right the line up before their next at bats.

How can I do the swap with Jake getting the hit instead of Tanner? We are in a league where all members of the team have to bat. If I sub out on the pitch-by-pitch, it still says that Tanner hit the double. Am I doing something wrong or is there no workaround when all team members have to bat.

Thanks for the help. The scorebook doesn't matter, I am just tying to get the stats correct.

You can temporarily add a playe rso that you can do offensive substitutions. To do this, go to the Pitch by Pitch, and select the Game Starts event. Then select Edit next to starting lineup. Click the first row to add a new player. Give the player a name like "dummy" or "temp" or whatever. Make sure Batting=NO for that player (it will be by default).

You can now go to the place in the game where you want to do the substitution and rearrange the Offensive players. After doing this, you can go back and remove the temporary player from the lineup.
