Web site design

Post by Don Settles » Sun May 23, 2010 6:37 pm

I know nothing about designing a website. I thought you would simply choose a design and add information. I have no idea how to start. Is there somewhere to get help or have I made an unwise $20.00 purchase?

All of the information is automatically populated for you whenever you score a game and Export your database to the server. You actually do not need to do anything to the website to have a fully functioning site. There are simple customizations you can make with no website design experience at all (like changing the colors used on the site through the Settings tab), and you can gradually customize more and more, or you can use it as is with no changes at all.

If you are not happy with the website and the customizations you can make, we can remove your team website and issue a refund. Just contact us directly at support@iscorecentral.com.

If you have questions on any customizations you would like to make, the iScore Community here has been very quick to help new website users with any questions they may have.

Don,
What design changes are you trying to achieve? Roster, games and stats automatically populate if you are trying to do pictures or links there is help on the board.

Just ask.

I like the fact all stats are auto uploaded. However, I cannot get the site to accept backgorunds and such. I upload a picture, select it, hit test and it looks good. I then hit save and it reverts back to the original settings. I go look at the "background" line in settings and it is blank again. What am I doing wrong?

I also cannot figure out how to work the calender. For a specific weekend, I cannot enter for example May 29-30, 2010. It only accepts one date. When you choose reoccuring, you have choices that are not what I need. I saw in one of the examples where it looks like an excel spread sheet was import to the calender, how can you do that?

As you can see, I have tons of questions, I really have no idea what I am doing. I will say however, I looked at some different "sitebuilder" websites and they are not any easier, so I am not really upset at Iscore, just myself for struggling!!!

A tuiturial would be great, or anything that offers some step by step instructions.

As always, everyones prompt replys are greatly appreciated.

With the changing of colors and the graphic, after hitting save, if it is reverting, it is usually a browser caching issue, and if you immediately press refresh in your browser, chances are you will see the just changes you just made. (We have seen this happen, especially with IE8, but can happen with other browsers as well.)

With the calendar, the one we provide by default just has very basic editing. For something that is 2 days, you would need to enter each day individually. Some people have switched it to a Google calendar which is a bit more advanced. On the Calendar screen, we have the option to change the Calendar link to any URL, and it shows instructions on how to change to a Google calendar. This actually will accept any URL however, so the people that are showing an Excel looking schedule have created either a graphic or a web page, and changed the Calendar URL to that. If you upload your schedule as an Image into the Photos section, you can get the URL of that image by right clicking on it and viewing properties, and you would then be able to plug that in as your Calendar URL.

We will try and create some kind of "FAQ" document in the future for updating websites, but it is really something that allows people to do pretty much anything they want, so it is really hard to put together a traditional User Guide for it. We have been relying on the forums here for people to ask questions and share ideas on how they have enhanced their websites.

Thanks for the help. I think I've got the calender figured out. (I'm importing another calender).

However, the backgorunds are not working. I've tried refreshing, I've even deleted cookies and temp files to see if that helps.

I am able to change the colors of all the different fields, but cannot add any background pictures.

After you change and save the change for background image, close you browser completely then open up the browser again, then go to the website.

That didn't work either. Would it make a difference if i started working on the website with my Mac and now am using a PC?

I can't even change colors now.

Ok...I logged off for about an hour and logged back in and it took some of my changes. I guess I was being to impatient.

I'll see if it will take others and go a little slower.

thanks for everyone's help.
