Pitch speed tracking

Post by Pitchersdad » Sat May 22, 2010 9:45 am

After viewing the videos and almost all the forums and 10 hours w the app cannot seem to get pitch speed to show up... Just see location. Logically each pitch speed and type and result should go into the running pitch by pitch commentary... What am I doing wrong?

Having a box per batter (much like MLB site does it) rather than by pitch w color coded pitch numbers showing order (number) type (color) and location with speed referenced by pitch number would be much more useful to see pitchers approach and control! This box could be repeated adding each pitch in the pitch by pitch running display and cleared each batter ... Yes I gun every pitch of every game for here is where most baseball strategy plays out.

We currently capture and store the pitch speed, but are not using it in reports. We will be sure to add it very soon for those that are recording it (we have the feeling not many people are recording it because we do not get requests about it very often). Thank you for the suggestions.

Pitch speed is not a functionality currently supported by iScore.

Pitches per batter instead of cumulative is on the suggestion list for FTM. I am not sure where this is on the priority list, FTM will weigh in on that.

We actually do capture the pitch speed on the pitch tracking area, we just don't currently display it in the pitch by pitch listing --- we will soon however for those that have been recording it.

FTM will need to weigh in .. but .. unfortuneatly you are correct..

the output for the detailed pitch tracking information (speed, location, and type) appears to be incomplete at this stage. does not show up on pitch by pitch or iscorecast, and can not be edited after the fact.

the last page of the scorecard will show location balls, color coded by type but without a legend.

Well nice head fake... Makes app totally useless for me until this is added... Need to have data on pitch selection and control by pitch to share with pitching coach after game... Also give batters heads up on what to anticipate. assuming good mechanics and stuff, pitch and location selection can easily double pitchers effectiveness and is critical at the high school level.

If you can email us directly at support@iscorecentral.com, we can probably get you what you are looking for right away. We have never really had a request for this before beyond the pitch chart we currently provide, but if you email us with what you are looking for, we can probably get it for you.

Currently, I estimate speed (sometimes with the help of somebody using a gun, sometimes not), but do this even though I know it isn't *currently* reported because I have read FTM say it is captured and may be used in the future.

Here's an idea, though - partner with a speed gun manufacturer and get the speed data to automatically upload in to iScore by Bluetooth. You could even get to pre-set default pitch type selections by a range of speed that gets uploaded.

I have often suggested here that the pitch charting (and hit charting) could and maybe should be part of a separate app. Those functions could be enhance, with reports on what result came from each type of pitch, whether by pitch type, location, batter, etc. Same with hitting charts. It would be amazing and wonderful if that information could be merged into one game report, on one website, too. I have no idea what the technical challenges would be for this, but this would be pretty high on my personal wish list.

We may create separate pitch/hit tracking systems in the future, but we have been focusing our time on enhancing iScore up to this point.

The Bluetooth speed gun idea is brilliant! Automatcally logging into the app with the only need being pitch selection and location. Simple. Quick. Brilliant.

But I agree that mph MUST show in the app or the pitch chart is only 50% useful. It cannot be that hard to add this to the reporting ... Can it?
