pitch-by-pitch menu issue...?

Post by pantherwill » Sat May 15, 2010 6:39 am

I used the iPad for the first time to score my son's game last night...AWESOME. Loved it. As great as the iPhone version is, this one is better. Now I just have to upgrade my iPad to the 3G version so I can use the iScorecast and twitter options while scoring games.

One issue I had, though...as the game progressed, the pitch-by-pitch (by inning) menu on the right side of the screen got longer, and eventually covered up the pitch-placement box and tools menu button (and possibly some other things). I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to reduce the box to that I could continue marking pitch placements/types...which I like to keep tabs on. I've looked on the support community forum board and on your site, but can't find a solution. Help, please?

Below is a link to a thread regarding this issue. It seems the steps to reproduce the issue are illusive. Closing iScore and restarting I think gets the screens back in alignment. If you can reproduce the steps to make the pitch by pitch run over the pitch scatter chart please post for FTM to review.

I participated in the previous thread, and have had this occur again (once). I was able to exit the program, go to the main iPad home screen, re-open iScore, and resume scoring with this issue resolved. I have a feeling this is an issue related to memory leaking. The best way to avoid issues related to memory leaking is to do a full power off (hit the power off button and hold until the red slide button appears - slide it, and then re-boot/power on).

It is possible it is memory, but it seems to be related to rotating the device... you will notice if/when it happens, there is some weird rotation going on with just the pitch by pitch that does not happen with the rest of the screen. We would very much like to get this one resolved, but until we can reproduce it consistently, the best we can do is guess at the cause, and so far have not been successful in our guessing. :)

I have seen this problem as well, and I believe I have found a way to repeat it. Try these steps:

1. Start the application on the iPad (after running some other application--this is important)
2. Create a new game (I do this with two made-up teams that I created both using Quick Roster, although that doesn't seem to be a requirement)
3. Select the new game from the game manager window
4. Choose play to get to the lineup page
5. Change the batting order of at least one player on the lineup screen (this appears to be a critical step)
6. Choose done to get to the game screen
7. Now, flip the iPad over. You should see rotation of some large black screen regions. Whenever that happens, you'll have a problem with the pitch by pitch window.

At this point, you can choose play and enter plays, watching the pitch-by-pitch screen fill up over the top of the pitch location area. Exiting the program and going back into the game resolves the problem.

Obviously, the quick fix is to lock the screen rotation before starting the application, then it doesn't seem to happen at all (no rotation, of course). Also note that once it's working correctly, I can't seem to break it again until I not only exit the application but also run another program (I've been running the USA Today ap). And then go back into iScore again.

Let me know if you're not able to reproduce the problem and I'll see if I can nail it down more.

Thanks for all the great work!

We had this happen yesterday while scoring a minor league game. This was the first time we'd seen it happen. Hubby says he tilted the top of the iPad down while doing something else and when he went to enter the next at bat it had changed. We had to exit and restart iScore to clear it. Only took a second.

Along that line, since we don't track the pitch placement it would be nice to have the option to remove that and allow more room for scoring options.

Otherwise we're having a lot of fun at our local minor league games; I score the visitors and he scores the home team. Thanks for a great product!

Just curious if you folks at FTMSupport were able to recreate the problem consistently...

Thanks!

We used the steps you outlined, and it happens sometimes and not others. It is still not consistent. Appears to happen about as randomly as any time flipping the device. Once you have flipped once without the issue, it does not appear to ever happen during that "session". But the steps do not reproduce the issue every time.

Thank you for taking the time to document the steps though as hopefully we will find a commonality at some point.
