It would be awfully hard to score an error on the shortstop if he is hitting the first baseman in the chest every time... even with a slight tail. Obviously this was an exaggeration, but being used to show the silliness of the rule and how self serving it is to give an assist when a put out is not made.

Well, yea. If he's hitting him in the chest it's a different matter. I just wasn't sure if he was throwing wide or throwing the ball right down broadstreet every time.
One of those things that you'd have to see in person I suppose.
