End of Season ==> New Season

Post by Terrible Timmy » Mon Sep 16, 2013 6:21 am

What are most people doing when it comes to a new season with opponents:

Are you renaming the opponents name from something like 2013 Strikers to 2014 Strikers and then readjust the roster?
Are you just making a new 2014 team which then.....
*Do you just create new girls -or-
*Do you pull the girls in from the existing players

I not sure I see any purpose in keeping opponent's stats since girls switch teams, it's hard to keep track of, they grow in size, etc.

Just curious.....Thanks

If you have any other ideas on how to start a new season, I would welcome any advice.

For my "home team" I create a new team each year. For opponents, I just add/subtract girls to existing team rosters. I use existing players from player manager if they are there (try to avoid duplicate as much as possible.) The main thing I like for opponent rosters are the hit charts.

But as girls move from 10U to 12U to 14U to 16U, I'm not sure the charts are really valid. My other concern is you "follow" an opponent for 4 years, there's going to be a ton of lines

You can use leagues to filter out older games if you are no longer interested in that data.

on the handheld device you can use leagues to filter, but on the admin web site, you now alos have options to look at last N at bats (n= 10,25, 50, 75, 100) or filter by specific team or leagues.

to the original question ..

my preference is to create a new team each year "strikers 2013", "strikers2014". (I do not use the inactive roster feature as much) I do this b/c generally there is some but not perfect roster overlap. and on more than one occasion have found value in being able to have both teams information accessible. where possible I try and re use existing players, Ie add Michelle Smith if still on team vs create a new second Michelle Smith. if i find later i inadvertently created multiple Michelle Smith's from the same team/league - I will "merge" players together to enable seeing lifetime stats. . I use leagues to filter by season.. I DO NOT delete past players or teams (it does not take up much space and can cause some internal confusion if you have games with deleted teams/players).

the most recent stats against 'current competition' are of course most relevant.. , but the life time hit charts and stats can often be very telling too. you just have to use good judgment in how you process them, and having the year associated with the team helps me know how much to discount them based on age or playing level at the time.
