Sacrifice question

Post by KevTN » Sat Feb 16, 2013 4:57 pm

I am curious about scoring a sacfrice and what the rules are? the head coach wants me to score a sac anytime a runner advances safely to the next base. Is this true?

Thx

On a sacrifice bunt that is true. For a sacrifice fly, a runner must score for it to be a sacrifice.

Just to make sure, if a runner advances because of a ground out, a sacrifice is NOT scored for the batter.

FYI - Scoring sacrifices is spelled out in the rules. If a coach or you want to score something differently of course you are free to do so. My recommendation is to just be consistent no matter what you do. However, scoring by the rules as much as possible, can keep you much more consistent and keep people from questioning your scoring decisions.
