How do I separate stats for a renamed player?

Recently, a player left our team and a new player appeared one week later wearing the same number. Unwittingly, I simply typed the new player's name in place of the old player's name in the team's roster (from Team Manager). Now, my combined stats for those two weekends show both players' stats as the same player. What is the best way to properly reassociate these player's with their respective games/stats?

Type the original player's name in for the new player in Player Manager. Then add a new player to the roster using the new name. Go into all of the games in which the new player participated and put the new player into the starting lineup in the place of the old player name using the Pitch-by-Pitch editor. This should take care of things.
