What is the difference between held up and advance by batter

Post by calaberator » Sat Aug 29, 2009 8:26 am

When I mark a player as hitting a double or single etc. and it asks what happened to the batter, do I mark held up or advanced by batter? What is the difference between those 2 buttons. the tutorial tells me to push held up but it seems more logical to hit advanced by batter because he hit the ball and advanced. can someone please clarify this for me?

Thanks

Usually advanced by batter would be used for Runners, not the batter himself. It is really just a matter of preference in those cases though. From a statistics point of view, the two wind up scoring the same way.

We would typically use Advanced by Batter for the runners that are already on base, and Held Up for the batter himself (i.e. he held up at first base, did not try stretching the single into a double). But again, it is really personal preference since the stats treat them the same.

thanks for the help! I have always been using held up and wondered when I could use the advanced by batter, but it should have been common sense to me. lol thanks for clarifying that
