checked the book, the runner didn't advance home on an error, she advanced on the hit ball but that doesn't determine the ER, it may determine the RBI... it's like with two outs, then an error allows the batter to reach first base, the next hitter, hits a home run, the runner on first diddn't score off an error, she scored off the home run but it still ins't an earned run.. in fact not run score after the error with two outs can be an ER, not matter how many or how they are scored..
I-score does a pretty good job of of crediting ER's but of all the stats kept, that is it's weakest catagory. I think someone said they are looking at ficing it or at least improving it so for the time being I'll just check every game's ER and compare and make manual adjustment after the fact... thanks again
I'll try some practice scenarios and see what I find.. thanks guys your geat
earned run on an error followed by a FC?
Re: earned run on an error followed by a FC?
Baseball official rules> this was copied and psted from it:
Rule 10.16(a) Comment: The following are examples of earned runs charged to a pitcher:
(1) Peter pitches and retires Abel and Baker, the first two batters of an inning. Charlie reaches first base on an error charged to a fielder. Daniel hits a home run. Edward hits a home run. Peter retires Frank to end the inning. Three runs have scored, but no earned runs are charged to Peter, because Charlie should have been the third out of the inning, as reconstructed without the error.
didn't matter how the runner scored, still isn't an ER..

Re: earned run on an error followed by a FC?
iScore does a very good job of tracking earned vs unearned runs based on how we score it.
However, there are simply some situations that the software cannot know if its earned or not. Its not always black or white when deciding, it requires the scorer's judgement.
So, to some extent, no matter how much FTM improves the product it can never get it to be 100% accurate. The scorer will always need to be aware of the situations where that potential gray area lies and know to look closer at how it was scored and correct as necessary.
Lets compare these scenarios:
Scenario 1:
Two outs, bases empty. Batter hits clean single to right. Batter aggressively tries to stretch to double. Perfect throw to second baseman covering, in plenty of time, but second baseman drops the throw and runner is safe at second.
In iScore: In Play, single, (what happened to runner?), second, safe, error, 4.
Next batter hits 2 run HR.
Scenario 2:
Two outs, bases empty. Batter hits clean single to right. Batter initially holds at first, but then takes second base when the throw coming in from RF is mishandled by second baseman.
In iScore: In Play, single, (what happened to runner?), second, safe, error, 4.
Next batter hits 2 run HR.
We have scored the 2 plays exactly the same. In the first scenario, both runs should be unearned (if not for the error, the inning would be over). In the second scenario, both runs should be earned (the error did not extend the inning, just the base the runner occupied).
iScore, records this as 2 ERs.

Re: earned run on an error followed by a FC?
sweet sample and thanks, i'll be carefule and either make notes or look closely agter the game and muanually fix the stats... Great example of why the program can't know it all... without a sperate entry ex. error extended inning.. or inning ending error.
