RBI?

Post by Astees » Tue Jun 28, 2011 2:10 pm

Does the batter get an RBI for reaching first on a dropped third with the bases loaded? I'm aware of the odd RBI credited for bb, HP, sac, etc. that lead to a run scored because the the bases were loaded, but wondered about this. Thx.

Batter gets a strike out.

for batter runner to be able to advance with first occupied, must be two outs and a simple drop third should result in an out at home with ordinary effort by a catcher. For a run to score, I suspect it will be due to a very wild pitch or passed ball or error, not the result of a batters action.. And not an RBI..

I have seen an instance where the catcher,in youth ball, forgot to touch home but threw widely to 1st allowing the runner on third to score the winning run. How would you score this?
One should never assume that a player will do the obvious thing. In an MLB game the other day the 3rd baseman, left fielder & shortstop all converged on a pop up and no one caught the ball. If "pro" can mess up a play imagine what young players will do.

you are not supposed to assign an error for a "mental" error. This sounds like it might qualify. I would score strike out, safe, dropped third strike. What happened to runner at third? Home, safe, on the throw. You might also say runner made it home on error by catcher if you feel the run was scored due to the throw being bad. Judgement call by scorekeeper based on league, age of players, and consistent applying of the rules.
