Batter/Runner Reaches 1st on FC or Error?

Post by fordfan485 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:38 am

Here is the game situation:

Runner on 1st, ground ball hit to short stop, short stop throws to the 2nd baseman and who cant catch the ball, runner is safe at 2nd. Batter run makes it to 1st safe.

Here is how I scored it:

Fielders choice (6-4)
what happend to runner at 1st, safe at 2nd on E4
what happend to batter/runner, safe at 1st, held up

Guess my question is can it be a fielders choice if there is no out made on the play?

That is how I would score it. No out is needed for fielders choice. FC is just showing how the runner got to first, the error at second will show where the play went in lieu of the 6-3 ground out.

Fielder's Choice is correct because it would have been an FC had the error not been made at 2nd.

absolutely can be a FC if no out made on the play. does not even have to be an error. a failed attempt to put out a proceeding runner can still leave you with a FC. It just depends on what official scorer thinks ordinary effort could have done to batter-runner.
