Ground ball hit wide to first baseman, pitcher covers, is there in time, but first baseman decides to keep it, and gets beat to the bag, runner safe. FC? Error? hit?
Had 1st baseman tossed the ball to the pitcher, and had he caught it, runner would have been out.

Re: fielder's choice, error or hit
have to defer, score based on your judgement of ordinary and routine effort at your league/age level. be consistent game to game team to team.

guess I should have added that this is at the varsity high school level.
thanks,
thanks,
Re: fielder's choice, error or hit
still judgement call. . live visual and scorer judgement are required.
the most important thing i can say is be consistent in your application of ordinary effort of ordinary player. (also physical not mental mistakes generally speaking. ie throwing to wrong base is not necessarily an error, failing to cover not necessarily an error etc. ).

Re: fielder's choice, error or hit
I wouldn't think it was an error; it would probably be considered a hit. But the other guys are right, whatever you decide, just be consistent.
Re: fielder's choice, error or hit
I agree it is scorer's judgement, but it sounds like an FC to me. It could be a hit but that would be the judgement part. I don't see how it could be an error since there was no physical misplay.

Re: fielder's choice, error or hit
Not an error (note it as a mental error maybe). I always reserve a FC for when the fielder attempts to put out another runner besides the batter/runner, so not an FC either. I would have to give it a hit.
