Iscorecast Question

Post by Dschmitz » Sun May 01, 2011 1:46 pm

How do I know for sure that I am transmitting an iscorecast? Is there an on-off indicator? I am still experimenting but it seems like people can see it when I email link to them during the game but not when they use the link that is supposed to always work.

Also I have a team website question: i sent emails and synced iscorecast a few hours ago but new games are not yet on the website. Is there a time lag?

To update your team website, you use Options->Export from within iScore.

The On / Off indicator for iScorecasts is on the Options screen. Once you have turned it on, it will send the game up to our iScorecast server as long as you have an internet connection at game time.

When I email the game link, the recipient can use the first link to view the iscorecast just fine. However, for subsequent games, they cannot use the second link on the email or from the team website. In other words, I have to send an email every time to let them watch. Is there a setting that I am using incorrectly?

Thanks.

the answer depends on what url you are sending..

there are game specific links and device specific links (with menu)

when you email the game link from in game (misc Email game link) it is game specific

you can also generate device specific link as stated before.. one version of the syntax is

http://data.iscorecentral.com/iscorecas ... =xxxxxxxxx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
where xxxxxxxxx is your device specific ID

also if you have a team web site, after you option > export, assuming you enabled iscorecast or iscor cast synched, you can click on a game specific link for each game from the game tab

you have options. does that answer your question?

Probably but I may not be smart enough to realize it.

In looking at the two bottom links that are received during a game, they follow the syntax above but after the device name there is more text that reads: &g=fb1cc948 . . . . . Is that extra text needed in the link I make available to parents? When they click on these email links now, it takes them to the completed game, not the one that's going on.

During games, I have iscorecast enabled but I typically do not synchronize iscorecast or export until after the game is complete. Am I supposed to do those two things earlier?

Thanks

The links you are emailing from the scoring screen are for that game only. The steps OhioTex is giving allow you to email a link to your "DEVICE" so users can see a listing of all games from your device and you will not need to email the link to each individual game.

Personally, I like emailing the link to each game, just before the start of the game.

Currently, these are the steps I take for each game:
  • Before the game begins, hit PLAY, PLAY BALL
    Hit MISC, EMAIL GAME LINK
    email myself the link
Hit UNDO to get back to pre-game
Take email and forward to distribution list of parents, grandparents etc
This email serves as both an easy way to get into the gamecast, and also a reminder for those not there that game is starting soon
The inability to access my contact list here (like you can when you email scorecard, etc) creates the need for extra step of manually sending myself an email each time, then forwarding this on. Also, the fact that it doesn't remember my email address from previous time (like when you email scorecard, etc) forces me to type it out each time.

My previous request to add contact list functionality here was somewhat shot down by FTM, but would be interested in hearing if others saw a need for it.
To me, this seems like the perfect use for "Email Game Link", but FTM differs on what this functionality is designed for. Am I off base?

Thanks.

+1 on the "remember last email" and "address book access" from "misc > email game link" .. but not top of my wish list. Medium i would say.. but definitely of value. thanks for reposting !!

We have added this suggestion to our enhancement list. It was not the intent of the functionality, but that can change. If this is how people are using it (to email links to the games ahead of time and not ad hoc during a game), then it probably makes even more sense to add the email option to the Game Info screen so you don't have to do the fake starting of the game either.

Our feeling was that if you have a regular set of people watching the games, you would send them the standard http://iscorecast.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; link and they would always be able to use that one URL to watch all games instead of needing a different URL for each game.

But if people prefer sending links to individual games, it is certainly something we can make easier.
