Scoring errors and runs on pick off attempts

Post by gingbear » Mon Jan 10, 2011 5:27 pm

Runners on 1st and 3rd. Pitcher attempts pick off at 1st and throws ball away but not out of play. Runner on 3rd scores and runner on 1st goes to 2nd on the error and 3rd on the throw home.

Another situation. Runner on 3rd. Catcher attempts pick off after the pitch but 3rd base misses the ball and run scores.

What are the proper touch sequences for these scenarios? I've been doing pick off attempt and then error but I don't think that's right.

Thanks,

Ginger

Pickoff Attempt, followed by error seems correct to capture the play if you are tracking pickoff attempts.

To record the action in the first scenario (runner on 1st on 3rd), two ways could be used:

Tap runner on 3rd, Safe, Home, Error, P, (asks what happened to runner on first), Safe, Third, Error, P (will only give the pitcher one error because pitcher was assigned error twice during the same play)

or, you could do it as two entries if you want the runner advancing to third to be "on the throw":

Tap runner on 3rd, Safe, Home, Error, P, (asks what happened to runner on first), Safe, Third, Error, P (will only give the pitcher one error because pitcher was assigned error twice during the same play), then tap runner on second, Safe, Third, On the Throw.

For second scenario, would use:

Tap runner on 3rd, Safe, Home, Error, 3B
