When I select the edit game function, I just get a white screen. I just purchased the app, not a very positive first impression.

It sounds like maybe you have not actually scored the game yet? The edit function is for editing an already scored game and if there are no plays you will just get a white screen. Try tapping the Play button in the upper right corner.
