FD stats

Post by Afjb » Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:33 am

Hi. I started scoring a game and noticed all first down rushing stats were attributed to the QB even though the RB carried the ball and got the first down. Shouldn't the running back get credit for the first down? Thanks

For the time being I figured out a work around. I just changed the QB name to the RB name before the handoff and it allocated the first downs correctly. The play by play is off as it says " edgerrin James hands of to edgerrin James who runs 8 yards for the first down" instead of saying that it's Peyton manning handing off. I still would like to see it fixed.

The QB is the one that gets credited with First Downs. The RB gets credited with an Attempt and Yards Gained. This is how the stats are supposed to work, and we would not recommend setting your RB as the QB as it will distort other stats.

One reason for this is to give a RB credit for a first down would not be giving credit where it is due. The running back was not necessarily involved in all that led up the first down. At the extremes, it could be inches to a first down, and the running back goes one foot for the first down, and the other extreme, it could be 25 yards to a first down and the RB goes 20 yards and does not get a first down. What the RB is credited for is the yardage.

It is the QB that is rated on first down efficiency, not the RB. Hope this helps makes more sense of the stats.

Thanks, but if you look at any running back stats, it shows first downs as a category. Look at the link I have provided for Arian Foster. Right after TD is FD. NFL.com has it too, labeled 1st in their stat line. They are obviously tracking it by the person who makes the first down.

We will add this to our enhancement list for future prioritization, but as noted, we do not recommend setting your running back as the QB for the play as that will lead to other stat issues.

I changed it back and I don't normally track first downs. But it would be a nice feature to add and correct the next time you do an update. The app overall is very good and that's been the only stat issue I have noticed thus far. The only other things I would like to see are manual yardage entries as an option instead of dragging the icon and a way to manually set the clock without it running in its own.

Thanks again

If you double tap the clock, you can set it at any time. Thank you for the suggestions.

Yes, I realize that. I just wish you could set it so that it won't run automatically unless you tell it to do so. This way, I can adjust the time and not have to see if it's running between plays or not. Thanks for responding so quickly. This will be a big help for me when I score my various football games.
