Clock and Player Fouls

Post by frankboz » Sat Jan 16, 2010 5:56 am

The clock seems to start immediately after everything you do, including initially starting the game. It would be nice to have more control over stopping and starting the clock.
I think you also need to see the number of player files for all players, not just the ones currently playing. Perhaps when you tap "Sub" the small number could be shown for all players. Or even have a way to quickly view stats from the main screen.

For the clock, you can tap the clock to pause/unpause it. Double click it to make a time adjustment.

Good suggestion on the fouls... we will add showing # of fouls next to each player on the sub screen for an upcoming release. We will also work on a way to get to stats more quickly as the game is being played.

Thank you.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know you can pause and restart the clock; however, what I'm referring to is sometimes the clock just starts automatically. I would like it to start only when I tell it to start.

Can you give an example of when it starts that it shouldn't? Thank you.

I'm not saying it "shouldn't", but for example when you touch Sub the clock stops. After you touch Done and go back to the game, the clock immediately starts running. My thought is that I should be able to start the clock when we're ready.

Interesting... we were thinking that substitutions always take place when the clock is stopped, and actually "committing" the substitution is what you would use to restart the clock, but maybe there is a case where you would want to commit the substitutions and not restart the clock?

We will see if we can think of an intuitive solution for this.

Thank you again.

I guess I can get by knowing the clock immediately starts after committing. You just have to wait to committ until the game is ready to resume. That was just one example. Another one would be if you leave the app to check email then go back in to resume the game from Game Manager, the clock immediately starts when you touch Play. Again no big deal if you expect it.

A couple cases in point that the clock would not immediately start after a substitution.

Free throws, player subs before the shot and the clock is not running until missed shot or in bound pass.
Substitution on in bound, clock doesn't start until ball is received by player on court.

I don't see it as being a critical improvement unless a scorer wants to keep very exact minutes played. I have a hard enough time keeping up with play so the clock starting immediately is not an issue for me since I don't have to remember to start the clock.

Seems like if I can remember correctly there is some times when an action on the floor takes place, I can't remember if its a non free-throw shooting foul or not but when you go to put the action the clock will continue to count down once in the action screen and clicking on the clock won't stop it, you have to wait till you leave the action input screen. But this isn't a big issue b/c like someone stated earlier its hard to keep the clock exactly with the actual game clock.

As far as the clock goes, I would rather not have to worry about it. I would love the ability to turn the clock off. I still want to get a game log of the Plays in the order that they occured. I just don't need to keep track of what time they occured at. Could this change come any time soon?
