Turn off possession and pass features

Post by Yone » Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:43 pm

Have you ever done stats for a game? I can't stat a game without a spotter. I can't imagine having to do possession for every pass as well. Can we turn it off? It also makes it cumbersome to have to pick the player first. Sometimes, you can't see the player's number. It's easier to pick the shot, then the player and then made or missed. Would be nice to pick in any order.

If you are using an iPad, there is a mode called "Coach Mode" that allows you to do more "statistics scoring" rather than worrying about game flow. You can even just track stats if you want.

In the "Game" score mode for iPad, or the regular scoring mode on iPhone, we chose to go with entering things in a way that requires the least number of clicks. You are not required to do the possessions for every pass, though many scorekeepers do. This allows people watching an iScorecast (a unique feature of iScore) to keep up with what is happening in real time as the game is played. If you do not want to enter passes, you don't have to. Wait for significant events to happen, click the player, then click what happened, and you are prompted through the entire play. Once you are used to it, it really does minimize the number of touches required to score plays.

The idea of picking in any order sounds like a good one, but actually would increase the number of taps to score a play in several instances.

We are always looking for ways to improve, so maybe yet another method of scoring would be nice for some people. We have already addressed a few on the iPad, and have many people that prefer each style.

The one thing we have definitely learned with basketball scoring is that there is not a right or wrong way to do it... people have their own preferences, and those preferences often conflict with the way another person wants to score the game. So the best we can do is continue trying to add more options based on people's preferences.
